The short version
One company, one county, twenty-five years.
There is no founding myth here and no corporate history page. A Monroe man started a painting company in the fall of 2000, customers kept asking him to do the other parts of the job, and he learned to do them.
How it started, and how it grew sideways
Chris McManus is a native of Monroe and Union County. He started the company as a painting business in the fall of 2000, and painting is still most of what we do and the thing we are best at.
The rest came the way it usually does for a trade business that stays in one place. A customer asks whether you can fix the trim before you paint it. Then whether you can do the tile. Then whether you can just do the whole bathroom, because the last time they used three contractors it took four months and two arguments. Twenty-five years later that is a company that does carpentry, tile, drywall, trim and paint with the same crew.
Why we are set up this way
Most of our customers call us after somebody else let them down, and the story is almost always the same shape: a job with more than one trade in it, and nobody who owned the whole thing.
The tiler finishes on Friday. The painter arrives on Monday and the caulk line is wrong. Now there are two companies with two opinions and one customer in the middle, and whoever is cheaper to replace loses. When it is one crew and one contract there is no gap for the job to fall into.
The cost of working this way is that we cannot be everywhere, and we are not the cheapest quote you will get. We do not claim to be. We price the prep, the materials and the finish properly, before we start.

Who will actually turn up at my house?
The same small crew, and the person who quoted the job is on the job. That is a real constraint on how much work we take at once, and it is deliberate. It is also why we are honest when a job is too far away or too small to do properly.
Are you licensed and insured?
Ask us directly on the call and you will get a straight answer with the documentation, rather than a badge on a website. On licensing: according to the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors, a general contractor license is required for work bid or contracted at $40,000 or above, a threshold the board published as rising from $30,000 on 1 October 2023. How big is the company?
Small, on purpose. A small crew that does the carpentry, the tile, the drywall and the paint is the entire product. Growing past that means subcontracting, and subcontracting is the thing customers call us to escape.
What does “one crew, one contract” actually mean?
That the people who demolish your bathroom are the people who waterproof it, tile it, trim it and paint it. There is no handover between trades, which is where most remodel schedules and most remodel arguments come from.
Do you guarantee your work?
Ask on the call and we will tell you exactly what we stand behind and for how long, in writing, on your estimate. We are not going to print a warranty term on a web page and leave you to find out what the small print says.
What areas do you cover?
Monroe is home, and we work across Charlotte and about fifty miles around it: Union County, Matthews and Mint Hill, South Charlotte, Concord, Huntersville and Lake Norman, and over the state line into Fort Mill, Indian Land and Rock Hill.
