A railroad town, and the big houses around it.

Waxhaw's downtown still has the tracks running through the middle of it and houses that predate the car. Around it, and across the village of Marvin towards the state line, are some of the largest homes in Union County, nearly all built since the late 1990s. We work in both, and they could not be more different jobs.

Painters in Waxhaw: tall rooms and a lot of trim

The newer houses here are big in the ways that matter to a painter. Two-story foyers and great rooms, open stair halls, coffered and tray ceilings, heavy crown, wainscot, and built-ins either side of the fireplace. None of it is difficult. All of it is slow if it is done properly, and it is where a fast repaint shows worst.

Old Waxhaw

The houses near the historic downtown are a repair job with painting attached. Expect settlement cracks, wood windows, porch floors and columns that have been painted many times, and trim profiles nobody stocks any more. We replace rotten wood to match rather than filling it, and we would rather tell you a sill is past saving than paint it and see you again in two years.

Kitchen and bathroom remodeling in Waxhaw and Marvin

The houses are new enough that little is worn out and old enough that a great deal is dated. The usual calls are a primary bathroom with a builder's garden tub that nobody uses, rebuilt around a larger tiled walk-in shower, and a kitchen whose boxes are excellent and whose finish is from 2004.

Do you paint two-story foyers and great rooms?

Yes, and in Waxhaw and Marvin it is a large part of the interior work. Tall spaces are an access job before they are a painting job: staging, protecting the floor and stairs, and cutting in a straight ceiling line twenty feet up. We quote them in person because the access decides the number.

Do you work on the older houses in downtown Waxhaw?

Yes. The streets either side of the railroad have houses a century old, and they need the opposite approach from a new subdivision: repair first, deep trim profiles, many layers of old coating. If a house is old enough for lead paint to be a question, that is settled before anyone sands.

My neighborhood has an architectural review board. Does that slow things down?

Only when the submission is left late. Nearly every large neighborhood here is covenanted, and exterior color changes generally need written approval before work starts. Submit while we are still measuring and it costs you no time. The steps are here.

Can you refinish a stained front door or stained beams?

Yes. Stained entry doors on a sunny elevation need stripping and refinishing long before the rest of the exterior needs paint, and it is a job we do on its own. Interior beams, handrails and newel posts are refinished by the same crew.

Do you remodel kitchens and bathrooms in Waxhaw?

Yes, with the same crew that paints. In the larger houses that is usually a primary bathroom rebuilt around a walk-in shower, or a kitchen where the boxes are good and the finish, tops and backsplash are what changes. See bathroom remodeling and kitchen remodeling.

Do you charge more for Waxhaw or Marvin?

No. Waxhaw is a straight run from Monroe on NC-75 and Marvin is a few minutes past it. Neither is far enough for the drive to enter the price.
