Our nearest town, and it shows in the schedule.
Matthews sits in Mecklenburg County against the Union County line, about fifteen minutes from us. That proximity is not marketing — it changes which jobs are worth taking, how fast we can get back for a touch-up, and whether a half-day repair makes sense at all.
Two kinds of Matthews house
Matthews has an unusually clear split for a town its size. There are the older streets in and around downtown and Crestdale, and there are the larger subdivisions that filled in from the 1980s onward along Providence and out towards Weddington.
They need different work. The older houses are repair jobs with painting attached: settlement cracks, deep trim, layers of old coating, and the occasional soft sill. The subdivision houses are cabinet-and-exterior jobs, where the boxes are sound and the finish is simply dated.

Small jobs, which is the point
Most contractors quietly price small jobs out because of the drive. At fifteen minutes we do not have to. A hallway, a single ceiling, a front door repainted properly, a run of rotten trim replaced before it becomes a wall problem — all of it is worth doing here, and a good number of our larger Matthews jobs started as exactly one of those.
The same people do the carpentry, the tile, the drywall, the trim and the paint. On a small job that means one visit instead of two contractors and a gap. On a kitchen or a bathroom it means the sequence is decided once, by the people who have to live with it.
Mint Hill, and bathroom remodeling on this side of the county
Mint Hill is the next town round the I-485 loop from Matthews, still in Mecklenburg County and still close enough that the drive rules nothing out. It is more spread out than Matthews, with more houses on larger lots and more of them from the 1970s and 1980s, which is exactly the age where the original bathroom has reached the end of what re-caulking can do for it.
A bathroom remodel in Matthews or Mint Hill is usually a full rebuild of the shower rather than a cosmetic refit: out to the framing, anything wet or soft replaced, cement board, a sealed membrane, then tile. Will you come out for a small job in Matthews?
Yes, and this is the one town page where that answer is unqualified. Matthews is about fifteen minutes from us, so a single ceiling, a hallway or a front door is worth doing properly. Further out we have to be honest about when a small job stops making sense; here we do not.
Do you work on the older houses around downtown Matthews?
Yes. The older streets near downtown and around Crestdale bring deeper trim profiles, more layers of old paint and more settlement cracking than a 1990s subdivision, and they want a repair-first approach rather than a fast repaint.
Is Matthews in Union County or Mecklenburg?
Mecklenburg, right on the Union County line — which is why the town feels like both. Practically it means Mecklenburg County permitting for anything that needs a permit, and it means we are usually passing through anyway.
Can you refinish 1990s oak or cherry cabinets?
Yes, and Matthews has a great many of them. Doors and drawer fronts come off and are sprayed, the boxes are degreased, bonding-primed and painted in place, and you get new hardware. Whether that is the right call depends on the boxes and the layout — the comparison is here.
Do you do exteriors as well as interiors?
Both, and often in the same visit, which saves a second set-up. Exteriors get washed, scraped and have any rotten trim replaced before the first coat. That is on the exterior painting page.
Who will actually be in my house?
The same small crew, and the person who quoted the job is on the job. There is no call center and no salesman between you and the people doing the work. That is easier to promise fifteen minutes from the shop than it is at distance, and it is one reason we like working here.
